How many bags can I bring? Each charter member is allowed 2 bags of 50lbs or less. Most people bring bags big enough to fit their tents and sleeping bags.
Can I bring a recumbent bike? Yes, but because we only have a finite amount of tranportation space we are limited on how many we can take. (1st come, 1st serve)
Can I bring an eBike? Yes! we will have a specific charging stations for eBikes. We will only be limited by the number of charging spots available. (1st come, 1st serve)
What kind of free cold drinks are available each day? We will have bottled water, Gatorade, and soda. The flavors of these drinks will very from day to day depending on availability. There will be sugar free options as well. We will also have free coffee available from 6am until the last bike leaves.
Does Chain Gang Getaways provide alcoholic beverages? Unfortunately no. Providing alcoholic beverage would require special permits, tax stamps, higher costs, and increased liabilities. However, You can bring your own alcohol that you purchase in the overnight towns.
Does Chain Gang Getaways provide food? No, like alcoholic beverages, food service requires special permits, and would drastically increase costs. But the overnight towns have tons of food options. The RAGBRAI food court and most of the overnight town restaurants will be open. Campsites will have shuttle service available through the overnight town.
Does Chain Gang Getaways provide showers? It depends. Most overnight towns we do provide bagged solar showers, but some municipalities will not let us set up due to environmental concerns. But regardless of where we stay, there will be shower trucks available where you can get a warm shower within the vicinity of our campsite. These showers usually run around $10. Our showers when available are included in your package.
Do our bikes need to be boxed and packed for the trip to the start town and then back to Omaha? Yes, there are two important reasons to pack your bike. First, with bikes packed in boxes we are able to fit them on the box vans. if everyone has unpacked bikes we could not fit them all. Second, it protects your bike. These trucks are big and ride rough. An unpacked bike could sustain damage very easily. Packing a bike is actually very easy. What is the restroom situation on RAGBRAI? RAGBRAI provides port-a-poties for each campsite. The distance from our campsite usually depends on where they place them. We will do are best to make sure they are within a reasonable distance. In the past they haven't always been placed in ideal spots. We are working with RAGBRAI to alleviate the issue.
